What is Sex Therapy?

A professional, affirming approach to sexual health and intimate well-being

Understanding Sex Therapy

Sex therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy that addresses sexual concerns, intimate relationship issues, and sexual health challenges. It's a talk-based therapy conducted in a professional, confidential setting—just like any other form of counseling.

Sex therapists are licensed mental health professionals with specialized training in human sexuality, sexual dysfunction, and relationship dynamics. We approach sexual health as an integral part of overall well-being, deserving the same professional care as physical or mental health.

The Process

What to Expect in Sex Therapy Sessions

1

Confidential Conversation

Sessions are conducted in a private, professional setting. We'll discuss your concerns, history, relationship dynamics, and goals through conversation—just like traditional therapy. There is no physical examination or sexual activity involved.

2

Comprehensive Assessment

I'll gather information about your sexual history, current concerns, relationship context, medical factors, and psychological influences. This helps us understand the full picture and develop an effective treatment plan.

3

Education & Skill-Building

You'll learn about sexual anatomy, arousal, pleasure, and healthy sexual function. We'll work on communication skills, anxiety management, mindfulness techniques, and practical exercises you can practice at home (individually or with a partner).

4

Ongoing Support & Progress

We'll monitor your progress, adjust strategies as needed, and address any challenges that arise. The pace is entirely up to you—there's no pressure or timeline. The goal is sustainable improvement in sexual well-being and satisfaction.

An Affirming, Inclusive Approach

My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and welcomes people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, relationship structures, and backgrounds. I believe there is no single "normal" when it comes to sexuality—what matters is that your sexual life feels authentic, consensual, and satisfying to you.

Whether you're exploring your identity, navigating a specific concern, or simply want to enhance your sexual well-being, you'll find a judgment-free space where your experiences and needs are respected and validated.

Sex therapy can be done individually or with a partner, depending on your preference and situation. Both approaches can be highly effective.
